The Breville BSB510XL Control Grip immersion blender is one of the most interesting and highly-rated models on the market today. It combines smart ergonomics, great power, and a unique bell-shaped blade shroud in a very affordable package making it very hard to beat.
For much more information about the BSB510XL and what we and others think about it, please keep reading.
Breville BSB510XL Specifications
The Breville Control Grip comes with advanced features that belie its modest price tag. The first thing you’ll notice is that it uses an inviting pistol-type hand grip and trigger speed control that make it very comfortable and easy to use. And rather than giving you the option of one or two speeds like most units, the BSB510XL comes with variable speed, which is great for fine-tuning the consistency of your various kitchen concoctions.
Another benefit of the Breville is power – great power. With its 280-watt motor, this stick blender can grind up ice and chop tough/hard foods with relative ease, without overheating or bogging down.
Also unique to this model is a bell-shaped chopping base that is designed to minimize splatter and which is also fitted with internal rib-like structures – this helps prevent the sometimes annoying habit these blender have of getting stuck to the bottom of the pan/bowl due to suction forces. The base is also finished with a non-scratch surface, so you don’t have to worry about damaging your favorite cookware.
This model has a generous immersion depth of 8 inches and uses stainless steel for both the blades and drive shaft for great durability.
Finally, the Control Grip hand blender comes with a handy whisking attachment for whipping cream, batters, and other light fare, as well as a large chopping bowl/blending jar. Notably, most of these parts and attachments are dishwasher safe.

Reviews & Ratings
This blender has an outstanding track record of 4.3 out of 5.0 stars based on a total of 107 reviews on amazon.com. These kind of approval ratings speak for themselves, but what precisely are people saying about this model’s performance? These are good examples of the tone of the reviewers.
“The blender is fast and powerful….it makes quick work of turning ice, fruit, and yogurt into a smoothie. I was also amazed at how neatly the blender works without splatter or splashing….”
“…it cleans amazingly easy and I use it for more than I thought I would. Smooth creamy mash potatoes, absolutely, mirainge for my pie, yes, milkshakes, yummy…I would suggest this to anyone….“
In addition, reviewers consistently noted just how high-quality the unit “feels” – no cheap parts or cost-cutting measures with this stick blender. Many other reviewers indicated that they had reviewed all of the top blenders and eventually picked this model, in part because it was highly-ranked by consumer reports.
Indeed, the handful of negative reviews were from people who appear to have received defective units, or had some grievance with Breville customer service (which is very rare in our experience). Others commented neutrally that the chopping bowl accessory was not built to the same quality as the blender, and that the larger, bell-shaped base of this model prevented it from fitting into narrow-bottom shake cups.
Price and Value
We have no hesitation saying that the Breville BSB510XL Control Grip provides perhaps the best quality for the price of any immersion blender we’ve reviewed. And we are not the only ones who apparently feel this way, judging by the glowing report delivered by Consumer Reports. Consequently, for its current price (which is in the neighborhood of $100) we think it’s a steal.
Concluding Thoughts & Opinions
Hands down this is one of best immersion blenders we have reviewed, and delivers the kind of performance we expect from some of the top-of-the-line Bamix and Waring models. And while it may not have quite the same design quality as a Bamix, or the power of a commercial Waring model, the Breville costs half as much and has twice the features of virtually anything else in it’s price class. We call that one heck of a screaming good deal!
